It started really catching fire sometime around 2008 thanks to session replay videos uploaded to Youtube/Niconico/etc., then got an extra boost from the popularity of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san.   3. I haven’t actually heard “Table-talk” used in English to describe TRPGs before, but it’s generally what the “T” is in Japan (as テーブルトーク teeburu tooku).
